IC Releases Annual Transparency Report on Use of Surveillance Authorities

Every year since 2014 the Office of the Director of National Intellience has published an Annual Statistical Transparency Report regarding the Intelligence Community's use of sensitive national security surveillance authorities.

This report provides the public not only statistics, but also contextual information, regarding the scope of the government’s use of Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act authorities, National Security Letters, and other national security authorities.

While it can be complex, sharing statistics regarding these authorities via the ASTR adds context to the rigorous oversight framework and efforts to safeguard the privacy of US and non-US person’s information acquired to accomplish the IC’s national security mission.
